To the human eye, a white object always appears white, regardless of whether it is viewed under sunny or overcast skies or indoors under a fluorescent or incandescent bulb. A digital camera, on the other hand, must adjust for the color of the light source. This adjustment is called "white balance." White balance is only available when the mode dial is set to P, S, A, or M. In Digital-Vari Program modes, white balance is automatically set to A (Auto).
