Camera measures the subject brightness in order to set exposure
Matrix (Default Settings)
Compares measurements from multi areas of frame with library of typical compositions to produce optimal exposure for entire image. Best choice in most situations.
Center-weighted
Adjusts exposure according to lighting at the center of the frame. Optimal for metering off-center subjects, as for portraits.
Spot
Camera measures light in area shown by circle in center of monitor. Use when background is much brighter or darker compared to the subject. Frame the subject in metering target.
Spot AF area
Links spot metering to active focus area.
Available when auto or manual focus area selection is in effect.
